A Selection of Sales for Memorial Day Weekend
Forty-two sales and counting, including sales on clothing, shoes, accessories, skincare, home and kitchen goodies, tech, and very tasty tinned fish.
I've mostly been keeping sales over at my little side-blog, Morning Mist, but this list was getting long, so it gets to be featured on the main blog. For those who hadn't caught on, I've been posting much more frequent, much less perfect pieces on substack. I still think of The Second Button as my main blog, this is my baby. If you have a paid subscription to The Second Button, and want to get behind the paywall on Morning Mist, shoot me a DM, the former comes with the latter.
I put a lot of effort into crafting every post here, and I spend a long time editing, so I'm just not publishing that often. I do have two or three pieces that are >90% done, but that last 10% always feels like a mountain. But I like doing the work here.
Anyway, here's clothes.
Table of Contents
- Clothing (and department stores, so a bit of everything)
- Footwear
- Accessories
- Skincare & Fragrance & Stuff
- Home Stuff (like, furniture or whatever)
- Other including tech and food

Clothing
- Ralph Lauren has an extra 30% off sale styles. Mostly Polo, no RRL or Purple Label.
- Here are some highlights.
- Particlarly, I'm shocked this jacket is still in stock in so many sizes. It has the pocket layout Derek Guy keeps gushing about (and correctly so). And now it's $560? Come onnnnn...
- There's plenty of relatively affordable stuff too, like this seersucker coach's jacket, down to $84 in multiple colors.
- Levi's is 30% off sitewide, 40% off some shorts, and an extra 50% off at the sale section.
- Abercrombie & Fitch is 20-40% off most stuff. For the, I think they're a pretty solid place to shop.
- Banana Republic is 30% off full price, and the sale section is “up to” 50% off.
- Billy Reid is 20-40% off depending on how much you spend.
- Luckily, the leather and suede jackets hit that 40% off mark in one go, meaning that my awesome black suede jacket is down to $960.
- Billy Reid is good at jackets.
- Madewell has an extra 30% off its sale selection.
- Rag & Bone’s sale goes until 5/25, with 30% off some styles.
- But some of their regular sales are cheaper than that. So idk how good a sale that is.
- I wrote this in the past. Is this overshirt on sale now? They sent it to me, I like it. A super soft tencel blend.
- Here, I picked a few more things I like.

- Huckberry is having a sale.
- They always have something on sale, but still, some good stuff here.
- Like these 100% wool cable knit beanies for $25. Seriously, why would anybody ever want an acrylic beanie?
- Or Service Works stuff. These are good prices for good pieces inspired by the service industry.
- Here’s a selection of way too many things from said sale. I need a new hobby, this is not a sustainable use of my time…
- American Trench is up to 25% off a very large selection.
- If nothing else, use this as a chance to buy a mountain of socks from them.
- Nordstrom's Sale is going until 6/1. But after spending all that time on Huckberry, I do not have the energy to go through Nordstrom's stuff, too. Good luck.
- Same goes for Mr. Porter. There's some good stuff in there, probably.
- Pendleton has some stuff on sale.
- The dude's cardigan isn't on sale this time, but the black donegal variant is.
- Here are some other picks.
- Paul Stuart is up to 25% off.
- Bill's Khakis is 20% off some shirts and shorts.
- COS is "up to" 30% off.
- The worst thing about COS is that they are owned by H&M group. If you don't want them to have your money, don't give it to them. Otherwise, they make some cool stuff.
- Best Made Co. is 30% off basics—tees, five pocket chinos, and sweatshirts.
- And TheRealReal has a "Real Big Sale," with things up to 80% off the prices they had initially set so... idk, these numbers are kinda made up, but some of them are really low, so... that's not bad.
- I occasionally post mini secondhand roundups on that Substack I mentioned, just for paid subscribers. Here's one, it's a month old but some of these pieces will still be in stock.
- Remember, if you pay for a Jerry or Elaine subscription to The Second Button, that comes with a Morning Mist subscription as well, shoot me a DM to collect.
- I occasionally post mini secondhand roundups on that Substack I mentioned, just for paid subscribers. Here's one, it's a month old but some of these pieces will still be in stock.
- Bather is 15% off sitewide. They do very cool bathing suits and resortwear.

Footwear
- Oak Street Bootmakers is 20/30/40% off good shoes in its sale section.
- Their website says "up to 30%" but it's lying, there are quite a few options at 40%.
- They do boots, but also loafers and boat shoes and beanies and other things.
- Grant Stone is an extra 20% off its sale section offerings.
- Beckett Simonon is having its two pairs for $359 deal.
- I think they do this every MDW
- It’s an especially good price for boots, since those tend to be pricier.
- They also do women’s shoes, and the deal for women’s shoes is 2/$289. I don’t know why they’re cheaper, but I guess most of these pages aren’t saying anything about construction, so maybe they’re fused and not blake stitched?
- Remember, they’re made to order. You won’t get your shoes for like 2-3 months.
- Toms is 30% off everything
- This brings some of their espadrilles to $45.50, and suede options down to $56. Yes, that’s rather cheap.
- As I’ve said before, espadrilles are supposed to be cheap. If you don’t have a person selling them at a stand near you, this is a fine option.
- “Alparagatas” is just another name for Espadrilles. Same thing.
- Allen Edmonds is up to 60% off its sale section.
- Here are some of my picks. I’d recommend sticking to these unless you really know their product offerings. They’ve introduced some strange stuff in recent years… Focus on the classics and a few others.
- Their oxfords are classics. If you wear suits often, get a couple of pairs.
- This is a great price for a very solid boot if you have a EEE width.
- Also, they’re an extra 20% off seconds. If you don’t know what “seconds” are, they’re not-quite-perfect shoes, but usually still very good quality. Sometimes the error is so small you’ll never notice. And it’s never, like, a structural problem. It might be a cosmetic issue with the finishing, that might be something you can solve with a polish.
- Here are some of my picks. I’d recommend sticking to these unless you really know their product offerings. They’ve introduced some strange stuff in recent years… Focus on the classics and a few others.
- Saucony is "up to" 50% off.
- I never know what I should do with that. "up to," thanks.
- What's the good stuff going for? That's what I wanna know.
- But again, I'm tired.
- Sebago USA is 30% off sitewide. They do boat shoes and... some Americana, but not as wide a selection of clothing as they offer abroad.

Accessories
- Ebbetts Field Flannels is up to 40% off its sale section.
- Aforementioned mountain of American Trench socks is 20% off.
- Anything in the retro stripe family is highly recommended. And the Statement Crew. And the wool silk boot sock. And… you know what, yeah, just get a mountain, you won't regret any of these.
- Kassatex is 25% off if you spend $250+ on their towels, beach bags, beach chairs, bedding, flatware... shoot, I might have to mention them again below.
Skincare & Fragrance & Stuff
- Elemis is 25% off sitewide for skincare and stuff.
- Oh, they actually have shaving and beard care products! A small selection, but still! So many skincare brands seem to forget that men exist…
- Remedy Skin is 20% off bundles and 15% off other stuff.
- And if you spend $50, they throw in free shipping and a little thing of vitamin C.
- They send me stuff, and I like it, but I'm not a skincare expert, but one thing I do appreciate is that some of their stuff has neat delivery mechanisms.
- Like this moisturizer where you press down the top and the moisturizer comes out the middle like... they show it in the photos but I think it's cooler in person.
- Or this hand cream thingy that's kind of like a stress ball and... idk, I like to fidget with it.
- Grove sells a lot of things, but I’ll put them here.
- 20% off for first time customers.
- They carry a bunch of brands that market themselves as eco-friendly or healthy or, you know, otherwise better. I believe that at least some of that marketing is at least somewhat accurate.
- They do have a Chief Medical Officer, who is an actual doctor and medical professional. That seems like a good sign.
- Tula does skincare and it's 25% off sitewide. I don't know anything else about them.
- Furtuna skin has flat discounts at specific breakpoints, maxing out at 38.8888...% off, if you spend exactly the right amount. I find this type of sale annoying, but hey, there you go.
- Grave Before Shave is 20% off some stuff with code "HONOR" through 5/25.
- Their name and branding is a little corny for my tastes, but a friend of mine who would know says their products are actually really good.
Home Stuff
- Our Place is having its "summer kickoff sale."
- Their always pan isn't my favorite thing...
- But their Wonder Oven Pro has the J. Kenji Lopez-Alt seal of approval, which is really all I need to hear...
- Crate & Barrel is having a sale. And it looks like they're also giving 20% back in rewards dollars? idk how that system works, but 20% back in credit on top of a sale would be really nice, huh?
- Kathy Kuo Home is 30% off sitewide.
- Alice Lane Home Colleciton is 20% off sitewide with a free tote at $250.
- Kassatex is 25% off if you spend $250+ on their towels, beach bags, beach chairs, bedding, flatware... told you I'd have to mention them again.

Other
- Camp Snap Cameras are on sale.
- The idea is, they’re digital, but they don’t have screens, so you gotta just take photos and hope you got the shot you wanted.
- Maybe try out their video camera that looks kinda like one of those Super 8 style cameras. Cute.
- Don’t go republishing my code, this apparently became a problem at some point, but it’s TSB7, and it gets you an additional 7% off.
- Bose has some of their nice headphones and speakers and other audio stuff on sale.
- Dad Grass has 20% off sitewide for THC and CBD gummies, drinks, joints, merch, and stuff like that.
- Fishwife is 20% off very good tinned fish.
