The Second Button
See, now to me, that button is in the worst possible spot. The second button literally makes or breaks the shirt. Look at it. It's too high! It's in no man's land. You look like you live with your mother.
-- Jerry Seinfeld
Seinfeld has a special spot in my heart. This opening quote is famous in menswear circles, not really for the advice it contains, but for the implication that "a show about nothing" is inescapably a show about clothing.
It's something everybody wants to talk about, not only enthusiasts. From small talk to big talk, from the mundane to the passionate, everybody talks about clothing. We love Seinfeld, not just for the outfits, but for giving us conversations about clothing, for normalizing them, for reminding the world how much fun they can be.
While hype for the show might not last forever, it will always be important to me, resonate with me, and with the clothing I love to write about. Does "the second button" really make or break the shirt? I don't think so. But I'm loving the conversation.
I'm Dan Hakimi. This is a personal blog. I don't think of this as a business, or of myself as an influencer. I'm just here to help and to have good conversations.
